New Music: i-D Online June 2013 Mixtape

Album Review: Kelly Rowland- Talk A Good Game

You already know I went to go see Kelly on Memorial Day Weekend. So I am so happy to hear and review her new album.

The album gets off to a good start with Freak, blazing a trial for Kisses Down Low, Gone and Talk A Good Game. It heats up again with Dirty Laundry, Street Life and ends nicely with #1. Kelly always puts out good product and the game talked showed. My only beef is that I want more pop/club songs from her. Love Takes Over/Commander showed that she can do it all so I look forward to the future for more albums that always talk a good game & deliver.

Eatery Review: Elevation Burger

I decided to try this place while I was out in Tysons Corner (haven't been there in a while!) and also since I went to go see Superman for free (gets a 3 out of 5 so I would wait for DVD). I heard about this place from family and friends and thought I'd give it a try.

I decided to get the usual: Burgers & Fries. I will say that the burger felt like I was eating something that was guilt free and natural. You can tell a difference between this and other fast food. I also felt like the value for my $$$ was there. You get what you pay for.

New Video: Kylie Minogue- Skirt Lyric Video

Kylie's Skirt on Nowness.com

Here is the lyric video for Kylie's new song Skirt. This is right up her lane, she has been doing this for years and keeps getting better with age. She knows how to play her cards and make you think sensuality and sexuality but not just one or the other. She is not new to music but keeps her essence alive and well. I have to say this is the best lyric video I've ever seen.

Here is other evidence of her sensuality + sexuality mix:

Eatery Review: Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken

When you think of doughnuts you don't think of chicken and vice versa. So when I heard that they were going to have both in the same place, I was kind of excited. This was back in December 2012. I kept hearing they were opening but no confirmation for months.

They finally opened so I was happy to go see what all the buzz was about. I got a dozen donuts for my coworkers.

They were pretty expensive at $2.00 +/donut  (Dunkin Donuts is .99 cents/donut) but you only live once. I will say that you get what you pay for. They were very rich. I only tried the Maple Bacon which is now on the list of favorites. My coworkers also thought they were very good, so it was a thumbs up!

Here is a comparison between Astro's and Dunkin:

I also decided to try the Fried Chicken. I do not have the same opinion as I do about the donuts. I didn't feel a difference between this and what you get from Popeye's/Shoppers Food Warehouse. I would say to try it for yourself and come up with your own opinion.

I also tried the sides and felt the same way.

The only suggestion I would give is that they need to get bags with their logo on them, the blank canvas isn't cutting it.

So when I want to feel rich, it is Astro's to the rescue.

And when I feel frugal, I will go elsewhere.

But I know I have found a new love: Maple Bacon Donuts from Astro's!!

Event Review: Lights Out Tour (Kelly Rowland/The Dream) @ The Fillmore Silver Spring

It was Memorial Day Weekend and I was glad that the show was not cancelled since Kelly got a new job on X-Factor. I was all ready to go in when there was a line around the block. I found out later that this was due to soundcheck (Really!!! When doors are suppose to open). But we finally got in and got seats. Here is the link to learn the Fillmore rules. Thanks Christy Sitter!!!!

***Sidenote: Fillmore staff.....when you are securing the seating area, make sure you are not leaving holes in your space.....if I wanted to I could have saved $$$ and sat for free***

Now on to the show: It was a case of good, better, best. First out of the gate was a rapper named August?? He came out and did a couple of songs but I was not very familiar with his work.

Next was The Dream, again I am not too familiar with his work as an artist but I do know that he has produced for a number of artist (BeyoncĂ©, Kelly, Kylie). He had a good set doing some old songs from Jodeci and other R&B classics. The funniest part of the set was when he came out and threw an umbrella into the crowd, that was immediately thrown back. Guess that was a no, no, no.

Then came the moment that we were all waiting for: Kelly Rowland. She came out and performed her classics (Like This, Dilemma, and Motivation). I really enjoyed the new material from the new album. One track was called Street Life and another was called Gone. My only complaint was that I wish she would have done some of her dance tracks (Commander, Love Takes Over) but these were not as popular in the US as they were overseas. Can't wait to hear the album on Jun 18th and write a review.
